[Last updated on: Mon Dec 14 20:05:40 1998] WELCOME! **************************************************** Welcome to the alcove-list, an e-mail discussion group where fans of Karen Savoca and Pete Heitzman can gather to discuss their music, the performances they have seen, their career, and to stay current on what's happening on Karen and Pete's calender. This is an interactive forum where you can post your messages and read the messages of others through the medium of e-mail. Depending on the time of year, this list may get busy or be relatively quiet. And that kind of depends on you! This is an unmoderated list, a sort of "virtual fan club" where Karen and Pete's fans usually will be discussing her music on an ongoing basis. However, if you are more interested in only receiving updates on gigs, records, etc., you can subscribe to alcove-news by sending e-mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with the following instruction: subscribe alcove-news and I will see that you are kept up to date, without the chatter and background noise of an active list. See the instructions for unsubscribing later in this document. If you prefer to only receive news of gigs, and upcoming events, please follow the instructions below for unsubscribing from this list and send the word subscribe int the body of an e-mail to: alcove-news-request@smoe.org The content of the alcove-news list is automatically sent to subscribers of the alcove list, so there is no reason to subscribe to alcove news if you are on that list, or it's digest. ************************************************************** PLEASE READ THIS DOCUMENT AND SAVE IT FOR FUTURE REFERENCE This service is presented at no cost whatsoever to either you, Karen Savoca, or Pete Heitzman. The listowner has volunteered his services. The server owner has donated the use of his system including the Majordomo program that processes your mail. This is a fan-based non-profit organization. Karen and Pete have approved this service and the use of their names in association with it. ************************************************************** E-mail contact addresses 1)alcove-list@smoe.org This is the address to post to the list. mail directed to any other address will not make it to the list. 2)Majordomo@smoe.org This address may be used to subscribe or unsubscribe by using the following form. subscribe alcove-list me@domain.com unsubscribe alcove-list me@domain.com You can also get the message you are reading now by sending: info alcove-list 3)alcove-list-request@smoe.org This address may also be used to subscribe or unsubscribe. PLEASE NOTE: The Majordomo package only responds to commands in the body of the message *NOT* to the subject line. The package will, however , respond to multiple commands in the same e-mail. We'll see how that works shortly. *************************************************************** REGULAR LIST VERSUS DIGEST There are two ways to receive the alcove-list, either as discreet e-mails, one at a time, or as a digest once a day. 1)alcove-list - The Karen Savoca discussion list You will receive mail as it comes in. You may get 100 e-mails a day or none. My guess would be 6-10 under normal circumstances. 2)alcove-list-digest - The Karen Savoca Discussion Digest. This is a compilation of all the traffic during the previous 24 hours and is sent around 1 AM Eastern Standard (or Daylight) Time. This is a handy tool, particularly if you are up early and looking for e-mail. Or if you are on another list, or another 15 lists ;-) You can handily switch between these options by sending one e-mail to Majordomo@smoe.org To switch from list to digest: subscribe alcove-list-digest me@domain.com unsubscribe alcove-list me@domain.com And of course vice versa. To sub or unsub, it is a little easier to simply use the address alcove-list-request@smoe.org and give the appropriate command in the *BODY* of the message. *************************************************************** POSTING MESSAGES TO THE LIST General All posts to the list are also sent in the digests. All posts should be sent to alcove-list@smoe.org. Please include a descriptive subject header with your message to help your fellow listmembers manage their mail. These subjects also appear in the header of the digests. Just to make things nicer...... This list was established to discuss the music of Karen Savoca and Pete Heitzman. Please try to keep on topic. Nobody is going to come after you for off topic posts. We all understand that music lovers will tend to group together by their interests and this list has people from many other lists, and from all over the world. Here are some suggested abbreviated subject lines: NKC = No Karen Content OAC =Other Artist Content BST = BSThread (We all know what BS is, right?) And doubtless others you will think of! Sometimes you may take offence at someone's statements. Try to be tolerant. Flame wars benefit no one and divert us from out main focus - the music of Karen Savoca and Pete Heitzman. If you start a discussion with another member of the list that seems not to be of general interest, it's OK to take it off the list. And while we're on the subject, it's really nice to get off list e-mail. Many people have built real friendships that way. Don't be afraid to mail someone off list with good wishes, good luck, happy birthday or just an "I know how you feel". By the same token, don't be afraid to go onlist with problems that members of the group may be able to help you with. Please read the Faqs page at http://www.dreamscape.com/alcove/ksfaqs.html If you are using netscape or msie, be sure to follow the link. Please do not post binaries, HTML, attachments, commercials, chain mail, get rich quick schemes, Neiman Marcus cookie recipes, or any of the other net-effluvia that floats around. It's old. It's lame. If you are on some type of limited account (Juno, AOL, a school account) and are not going to be tending your mail box, it would probably be best to unsub while your away. After a few bounces you will be moved to the digest and after a few days, the listowner will be forced to unsub you. The listowner will endeavor to prevent spamming of the list but if it should occur--DO NOT RESPOND unless you want the spammer to get your e-mail address. If you have problems with your subscription, if there are issues you need resolved, please mail the listowner at: charlies@voicenet.com And he will get back to you asap. And enjoy your stay! The listowner.
