In other genres of music, artists have been performing right up into their 70s, some (such as Celia Cruz) in their 80s. As long as an artist still has the burning desire to write, record, and tour because music is still meaningful to them, I say go for it. Don't retire just because some younger pups want to edge you out of the spotlight. I especially have an issue with people who scream for an older artist to retire when that artist still records some of the best music out there (ala Stevie Nicks and Trouble in Shangri-la, which may be her best solo album PERIOD.) Even though a lot of people don't know the song when I sing it at karaoke, "Fall From Grace" is becoming one of my "hits" because it's just a great song. That was THE most recent song she wrote. It's also one of her best.
