               Summary of Commands for List Administrators

This document briefly describes every command available to a list
administrator, but no explanation of why they are needed.  For a gentler
introduction, please see "help admin".  To learn about Majordomo
commands from the perspective of an end user, see "help commands" and
"help overview".  To learn about Majordomo commands available to
domain administrators, see "help admin_domain".

To issue a command, send it in the body of an e-mail message to
  majordomo@lists.naaclub.org

The examples in this document assume that you know how to use your 
list's administrative password.  Please review "help admin_passwords",
if you have not already done so. 

The syntax of each command is displayed, followed by a brief description.
In the command syntax, any item in square braces [ ] is considered
optional.  Any word in capital letters should be replaced with an 
appropriate value.  For example, LISTNAME should be replaced with the 
name of a mailing list.

accept [TOKEN]
  The accept command is used by list moderators to approve a posted
  message or other request that was being held for approval.

announce LISTNAME FILENAME
  The announce command is used to send a file to the subscribers of a 
  mailing list.  A separate copy of the announcement is sent to each
  recipient.

approve PASSWORD COMMAND
  The approve command is a prefix to another, complete command.  It
  asks Majordomo to use a particular password, but only for this
  one command.


archive LISTNAME MESSAGES
  The archive command is used to see the contents of, or a summary of, one
  or more messages which have been posted to a mailing list.

configdef LISTNAME [SETTING[,SETTING]]
  The configdef command returns a configuration setting to its default
  value.
  See "help configdef" for more details.


configedit LISTNAME [SETTING[,SETTING]]
  The configedit command is identical to the configshow command, with
  one exception.  When it is run from the mj_shell command line, the
  configuration settings will be edited by a text editor.  This makes
  changing settings much easier.

  
configset LISTNAME SETTING = VALUE
  The configset command is used to change the value of one configuration
  setting.  If the value occupies more than one line, a here document
  is necessary (see "help here_document" for more details).

configshow LISTNAME [SETTING[,SETTING]]
  The configshow command displays the value of one or more configuration
  settings.  If no settings are named, all of the settings will be
  shown.

default VARIABLE [VALUE]
  The default command tells Majordomo to use a particular value for
  all succeeding commands.  Acceptable names for VARIABLE are:

    delay     Postpone the command (see "help delay" for details).

    password  Use a different administrative password (see
              "help admin_passwords" for more details).

    user      Masquerade as someone else (see the "Sending documents
              to other people" section in "help admin_documents" for
              more details).

digest LISTNAME [DIGESTNAME]
  The digest command displays the status of, or initiates the delivery
  of, one or more digests of posted messages.
  See "help digest" and "help admin_delivery" for more details.


end
  The end command tells Majordomo that no more commands remain to be
  processed.  Anything following the end command will be ignored.


faq LISTNAME
  The faq command shows the Frequently Asked Questions document for 
  a mailing list.


get LISTNAME FILENAME
  The get command retrieves a document from the file space of a 
  mailing list.

help [TOPIC]
  The help command displays a help file, such as the document you
  are reading right now.
  See "help help" for more details.


index LISTNAME [PATH]
  The index command displays a directory of the files in the file
  space of a mailing list.
  See "help index" for more details.


info LISTNAME
  The info command displays the Welcome Message for a mailing list.
  See "help info" and "help configset_welcome_files" for more details.


intro LISTNAME
  The intro command displays the List Introductory Information document
  for a mailing list.
  See "help intro" for more details.


lists [PATTERN]
  The lists command shows a directory of mailing lists, simple or
  detailed.
  See "help lists" for more details.


newfaq LISTNAME <<ENDTAG
  [DOCUMENT_CONTENTS]

  The newfaq command replaces the Frequently Asked Questions document for
  a mailing list.  That document can be retrieved with the faq command.
  See "help admin_documents" and "help here_document" for more details.


newinfo LISTNAME <<ENDTAG
  [DOCUMENT_CONTENTS]
ENDTAG

  The newinfo command replaces the Welcome Message for a mailing list.
  That document can be retrieved with the info command.

newintro LISTNAME <<ENDTAG
  [DOCUMENT_CONTENTS]
ENDTAG

  The newintro command replaces the List Introductory Information document for
  a mailing list.  That document can be retrieved with the intro command.
  See "help admin_documents" and "help here_document" for more details.


post LISTNAME [SUBJECT] <<ENDTAG
  [MESSAGE_CONTENTS]
ENDTAG

  The post command causes a message to be delivered to the subscribers of
  a mailing list.  The message undergoes the same access checks as it would
  if it were mailed to the list directly.

put LISTNAME FILENAME [DESCRIPTION] <<ENDTAG
  [FILENAME_CONTENTS]

  The put command stores a file in the file space of a mailing list.
  See "help put" and "help admin_documents" for more details.


reject [TOKEN]
  The reject command is used by list moderators to disallow a posted
  message or other request that is being held for approval.
  See "help reject" and "help admin_moderate" for more details.

report LISTNAME [DATES] [ACTIONS]
  The report command is used to display or summarize the recent 
  activitiy on a mailing list.  See "help report" and "help admin_monitor"
  for more details.

sessioninfo SESSION
  The sessioninfo command is used to learn more about what caused a 
  request to be processed by Majordomo.  If the request was sent in an
  e-mail message, the headers of the message will be shown.  If the request
  was made with one of the web interfaces, the date of the request and
  the address of the host from which the request was made will be shown.

set LISTNAME [SETTING[,SETTING]] [ADDRESS]
  The set command is used to change the personal preferences of one or
  more subscribers.

showtokens LISTNAME
  The showtokens command is used to see a summary of all "stalled" requests
  for a mailing list.  A stalled request requires someone's approval before
  it can be completed.

subscribe LISTNAME [ADDRESS]
  The subscribe command adds one or more e-mail addresses to the membership
  of a regular or auxiliary list.

tokeninfo TOKEN
  The tokeninfo command displays information about a request that requires
  the approval of the list moderators.

unsubscribe LISTNAME [ADDRESS]
  The unsubscribe command removes one or more e-mail addresses from the
  membership of a regular or auxiliary list.

which [PATTERN]
  The which command shows addresses matching a pattern, and the mailing lists
  to which they are subscribed.

who LISTNAME [PATTERN]
  The who command shows the e-mail addresses of members of a regular or
  auxiliary list.
  See "help unsubscribe", "help admin_subscribers", and "help auxiliary_list"
  for more details.


Administrative command modes
----------------------------

  The commands you send to Majordomo often have one or more command 
  "modes" which alters the behavior of the command.  For example, 
  in the command
    lists-short-enhanced 
  the command modes are "short" and "enhanced".

  Majordomo offers four command modes that can be applied to any 
  command, and are only useful to list owners and site administrators.

  noinform - Do not send an informational message to the list owners.
    The "inform" configuration setting determines when a message
    would normally be sent.  See "help configset_inform" for more
    details.

  nolog - Do not log the result of this command.
    For each Majordomo request, one line describing the request 
    and its result is normally added to a global log file.  The 
    contents of the log file can be displayed using the "report" command.
    A site or domain password is required to use this mode.

  quiet - Do not send a notice when a delay token is created.
    It is possible for you to delay the completion of a request
    until later;  see the description of the "default delay"
    command in "help default" for details.  When a request is
    delayed, a notice is usually sent to the person whom the 
    request affects.  That person can follow the instructions
    in the notice to keep the request from being fulfilled, or
    to complete the request immediately. 

  rule - Turn off the "access_password_override" setting temporarily.
    Usually, when you use the master password for a mailing list,
    your requests are completed right away.  This mode causes
    the privileges of the master password to be suspended.  The
    access rules and other restrictions are applied as usual.

An administrative password is required to use any of these command
modes.  Please see "help admin_passwords" for a detailed description
of the different types of administrative password.
