Here are some sources where you can find braces.
For famous people who have or had braces please check out the

This Web page includes the collected information from the
"Mouth Jewelry" postings in the alt.braces newsgroup.
It all started with the list Steve posted, but since then
a lot of people have contributed to this page.

- All Saints: "I know where it's at" : The brown girl (Shaznay) wears upper clear braces.
"Never ever" : Shaznay wears metal brackets.
- Ardis: "Ain't nobody's business" : Female lead singer wears lower metal braces (she needed upper ones, too)
- Aaron Carter: "Party Girl" : little girls with braces
- Edwin Collins - The Magical Piper of Love : Video features several girls smiling and laughing as the dancers dane on stage. Shows several shots of a young girl wearing a bright green dress. She has braces that are shown frequently.
- Five-Star: "Luxury of Life" : circa 1985, video of the album with many of the hit singles featuring many close-ups of the girls fully banded.
- Hanson: "MMMbop" : Isaac Hanson has clear braces, which can be clearly seen in the video. Pictures of him with braces are available on the Net.
- INXS: "Beautiful Girl" : girl with braces smiling at beginning and end of video.
Plus, close up of lipsticked smile with full braces biting on celery
- Lynda: "Gira que Gira" : Mexican video, the singer wears braces.
- Dayna Manning: "My addiction" : the singer has braces, shown throughout the video
- Lila McCann: "I wanna fall in love" : She wears clear braces, lots of close-ups.
- Northern Pikes: "Twister" : Has a guy with facebow and vertical-pull headgear dancing around.
- Ratt: "I Want a Woman" : a girl with braces
- Sister Sledge: had a video where one of the singers wears braces

Sugar Ray: "Every Morning" : Two or three quick shots of a girl with braces and headgear (and a neck brace) drinking from a water fountain.
- SWV: "You're the One For Me" : lead singer Cameron Diaz has clear braces
- Vivid: "Off we go" : new videoclip from the German group, a girl wearing braces
- Whale: "Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe" : Swedish female lead singer Cia Berg has braces

Braces in Commercials/Adverts:
I need some help with this section. I'm not familiar with US commercials/adverts.

- 3M : ad for plastic brackets featuring various people wearing them - appeared in Time in 1998
- Anyone can have VD (?) : girl with full set of bands, late 70's
- AOA : Shirley Cothran did an ad that appeared in Readers Digest (and other magazines)
in about '77. Not a great picture but interesting.
- AT&T One Rate : a woman with braces shown several times
- Cheese Board : a teenage girl wearing braces smiling
- Chevy Lumina : 2 scenes showing a girl with braces. Recent ad in New England area for Chevy Lumina has some shots of kids with braces.
- Coca-cola : Olympics, people have a natural reaction to the color red (hockey goal light flashing), has a girl cheering with braces (brief)
- Colgate (toothpaste) : Girl in cafeteria embarressed of her new braces,
but smiles widely when she meets a boy with braces. (late 70s)
- Crisco : Little girl who just got braces longs for a
forbidden apple. Mom saves the day by making an apple pie! (late 80s)
- Crisco Milk (?) : a little girl wearing braces
- Delta Dental Plan : a provider of dental insurance coverage. Commercial has teenage girl embarrassed to reveal her braces, until teacher reveals his at the end
- Edy's Classic Ice Cream : A retro commercial. A young boy with braces is playing football when he spots a girl. She smiles, revealing braces. He smiles, revealing his. They walk towards each other, their eyes locked. He then gets knocked over by the ongoing football game and she looks at him and smiles.
- Family Dental Centers: a chain of dental clinics at shopping centers (don't know if they're even in business anymore). Commercial showed teenage girl in a retainer talking on the phone
- Fanta : a girl in Dutch Fanta commercial has braces
- First National Bank of Cincinnati : in mid 1970's had print ads of teenage girl in braces with ad headline: "We can help straighten things out"
- Hallmark : woman with braces gets card saying she's brave for getting them, late 80's
- Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints :
girl annoyed with her braces smiling at boy who's annoyed with his glasses
- Johnson Controls : Mom & daughter in orthodontists waiting room.
Receptionist calls a name, and Mom smiles, revealing a tin grin! (late 80s)
- Kraft : ad in the back of 6/1/97 Parade Magazine with a picture of a teenage girl with braces.
- Manhattan Cosmetics :
Colored young lady with upper metal braces smiles & says "If love is good, life is good".
- McDonalds
: a girl with glasses and braces
- McDonalds : Girl with facebow in Hamburger commercial
Commercial for McDonald's curently airing: close ups of teenagers working at McDonald's, with text indicating what their future occupation will be. Final shot of teenage boy in braces indicates him as a "future orthodontist"
- McDonalds Arch Deluxe : teenage girl with braces
- Microsoft : 3-page magazine ad in German shows lower half of a girls face with full metal braces.
An ad appeared in Time, Rolling Stone, numerous other
publications: featured teenage girl, blond curly locks,
prominent metal brackets
- Mitsubishi : A recent TV ad featured a female vet driving a gray Gallant wagon.
- Nickelodeon/Toys R Us : There is a commercial for the Toys R Us sweep which is sponsered by Nickelodeon. It features a girl with braces throughout the whole commercial.
- Nokia : c. 11/99, a Nokia cell phone commercial prominently shows a cute women with braces talking on her funky cell phone
- Pepe Jeans : A b/w showroom poster shows teenager laughing loudly, sporting full metal braces.
- Pepsi

Cindy Crawford did an ad with braces. The TV ad called "First Impressions" was shown at the 1995 Clio Awards.
- Snapple : The "Snapple Patch" commercial. One of the people wearing the Patch is a teenage girl getting her braces adjusted, with wires sticking out all over.
- Toyota : Recent (9/97) Toyota commercial has a closing shot of a woman with braces. The final image is black and white.
- Vicks Chloraseptic : Boy with pain from braces can eat a giant sandwich after using Vicks Chloraseptic.
- Where There Is a Will There Is an A
: Infomercial for video learning system has
extended testimonial by late-teen girl with braces. (early 90s)

Braces in Books:
- Search the online catalog at Amazon:
- Orthodontic texts have excellent pictures of braces & other
appliances; however, they usually don't have full facial pictures of
patients smiling!
- Headgear Orthodontics : This is an older text / informative book for
orthodontists - but has tons of great ortho pics. Only way to get it is
thru a medical/dental library.
- Mostly Michael : Children's book (fic) in diary form -
a few entries mention him wearing braces and headgear
- National Velvet : In the book, Velvet wears what seems to be a headgear.
- So You're Getting Braces : pictures of kids getting fully banded braces
and a girl getting a headgear
- Teen Cuisine
- Tracey Austin's Biography had reproduction or a Sports Illustrated
cover where she had her metallic smile.

Braces in Magazines:
There are many orthodontic-related articles out there, but few have good pictures.
Check out the Reader's Guide for articles.
Also, on CompuServe, GO MAGDB allows you to search the Ziff-Davis magazine database by words in text
(i.e. searching for 'braces' shows all magazines in the database using that word!).
- Journal of Clinical Orthodontics : Monthly (?) periodical pertaining to orthodontics.
Back issues should be available at universities' medical libraries.
- Career World : September 1992 issue. Cover features a collage of students. One girl has silver bottom brackets and clear on top.
- Jane : There's a new magazine called Jane which just came out, aimed at women age 18 to 34...it includes a brief story (p 89) on how "orthodontia has become almost a status symbol among the new crop of models" with photos of two women in braces. Also on p 148 is a model in a fashion spread wearing braces.
- Time : issue 9/22/97 had a Paula Jones article, you could see some of her brackets & elastics.
