She didn't go to Italy to accept it, and they won't send you the Daniello. You don't have to be there for the ceremony, but you must come to Italy to accept it in person. Cher plans to do that, sometime this summer. As a matter of fact, since Oscar night, no one has seen Cher in public, and it's not because she is staying at home to gaze at her Oscar. The reason for her newly reclusive life-style? Braces on her teeth that will not be removed until June 28. Seems when Cher went in to have her teeth cleaned, the dentist observed that some of her teeth were shifting. In order to correct the situation, she was told she'd have to wear braces for several months. Only her family and closest friends have seen her since the night she won her Oscar. But braces are only one of the two reasons Cher didn't fly over to Italy to accept the Daniello award. Reason No. 2? Cher recently has developed a fear of flying, which, however, she is determined to conquer! If you want to know more about Cher's genealogy and background, read her mother Georgia Holt's recently published, fascinating book, "Star Mothers." Georgia talks about her own background, which gives the reader a clue as to why Cher is (thank goodness) Cher. Georgia is 61. Her mother (Cher's grandmother) is 74, which means Georgia's mother was 13 when she was born. Cher, by the way, turned 42 on May 19. Her daughter, Chastity Bono, is 19. SHIRLEBRITIES: Katarina Witt, the Olympics gold medal figure skater, and other skating medalists being feted officially here in Los Angeles, unofficially went off for some fun on their own. Katarina and group broke away from the protocol events to go to Chippendale's, to enjoy the dancing male strippers! Robert (R.J.) Wagner came home from Europe immediately after finishing his role in the TV movie "Indiscreet" so he could attend the graduations of his daughters Natasha from high school on June 10 and Courtney from junior high on June 11. Natasha, who is an excellent student and looks so much like her late mother Natalie Wood, is waiting to hear about her college acceptances. R.J. is probably the best single male parent I know. His daughters definitely come first with him. The Boy Scouts serenaded Jimmy Stewart at his 80th birthday party Friday by singing "Happy Birthday" and "God Bless America." Irving Berlin years ago donated royalties from his "God Bless America" to the Boy and Girl Scouts. FLICK FLACK: After seeing it here in preview, "Big Business," I believe, is a prophetic title for Touchstone's new movie starring Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin as two sets of twins. The audience never stopped laughing. Much more about Bette, Lily and "Big Business" coming soon. THAT'S SHOW BUSINESS: Coming up this summer at Frank Kenley's Star Theatre in Flint for two weeks each are four musicals: "42nd Street," George Gershwin's "My One and Only," "The Desert Song" and "La Cage Aux Folles," the latter starring Peter Marshall, who was in it on Broadway. Kenley also is bringing in one non-musical, Clare Booth Luce's delicious hit play, "The Women." Starring in "The Women," Aug. 2-14, are Anita Gillette, Dody Goodman, Yvonne de Carlo, Margaux Hemingway, Jane Kean (Trixie in "The Honeymooners"), Julie Newmar and Virginia Graham. That's some cast! DIDYA KNOW DEPT: That Robert Wuhl, who's at the Comedy Castle in Berkley tonight through Sunday is the same feller who is brilliant and funny in Orion's upcoming, bound-to-be a hit movie, "Bull Durham." CUTLINE Katarina Witt: Has unofficial fun Robert Wagner: Daughters graduate
